Mechanical Recycling: Mechanical recycling is the most widely used method for recycling plastics. In this process, the plastic waste is sorted, cleaned, shredded, and melted to form pellets or flakes. These recycled plastic pellets or flakes can then be used as raw materials in the production of new plastic products. Mechanical recycling is suitable for plastics that can be easily melted and reprocessed, such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET).


Chemical Recycling: Chemical recycling, also known as feedstock recycling or depolymerization, involves breaking down the plastic waste into its chemical components to produce new raw materials or fuels. This process can be done through various methods such as pyrolysis, gasification, or solvolysis. Chemical recycling is capable of recycling a wider range of plastics, including those that are difficult to mechanically recycle, such as mixed plastics or multilayered plastics.


Energy Recovery: Energy recovery, also called waste-to-energy or thermal recycling, involves converting plastic waste into heat or electricity through processes like incineration or gasification. Plastic waste is burned at high temperatures in specially designed facilities, and the energy released is captured and utilized for power generation or heating. Although energy recovery does not directly recycle plastics into new products, it helps reduce the dependence on fossil fuels and provides a renewable energy source.


It's important to note that the selection of the recycling method depends on various factors such as the type of plastic, its contamination level, market demand for recycled materials, and environmental considerations. The choice between mechanical recycling, chemical recycling, or energy recovery is determined based on the specific characteristics of the plastic waste and the desired outcome of the recycling process.
