How to choose a color sorter

2020-Oct-31

Hey everybody, this is Tod from GroTech, you know I'm standing here in the factory, I'm in the equipment display area, because one of the questions we get a lot is about color sorter purchase inquiries, what type of color sorter should I choose, so we're going give you some tips to help you determine what a good color sorter is.

「Colour sorters or color sorters (sometimes called optical sorters, digital sorters, or electronic colour sorters) are machines that are used on the production lines in bulk food processing and other industries. They separate items by their colours, detecting the colours of things that pass before them, and using mechanical or pneumatic ejection devices to divert items whose colours do not fall within the acceptable range or which are desired to form a separate group from the rest.」

Color sorters are mostly used in sorting grain (agricultural products),Food industry,Diamond and mining industry, also in recycling industry

Usually,Sorters can be divided into chute-type and belt-type color sorters.

Let’s start with chute-type,Chute-type color sorters are more common especially for food, as prices are lower, capacities are higher, and products can be seen more easily from both sides, which is important when a dehulled grain has hull only on one side. Chute sorters are usually applicable to specific products, as the chute is designed with special channels for this kind of material based on sizes and shapes of the material. For example, 5 mm chutes are used for rice, grain and plastic granules. Flat chutes are right for plastic flakes, such as PET, or milk bottle flakes.

Belt-type color sorters break a smaller percentage of the material (important for nuts), and the product stays relatively static during the transport process as it moves horizontally on the belt. In the chute type, material slides on the chute because of gravity, causing collision, friction, and larger vertical movements, thus worsening the ratio of broken material. The belt structure makes the transmission smooth and stable without bouncing of material.

So there are two types of color sorter here, now Chute-type here, if you notice, this is a 2-channel model, each channel contains 63 chutes, so he has 126 chutes in total, the more channels means the more capacity the machine can handle, usually 1 channel machine handles rice with a capacity of 2ton/hour.

Tips 1:Clarify your needs, what material needs to be sorted, how much capacity you can handle per day, and how much space you can provide.
When the material passes through the channel and enters the core processing area, most color sorters have two sets of cameras in front and back, so as to ensure the accuracy of sorting, don't think that the color sorter can only screen according to the color, shape and size, with the help of IR camera, the color sorter can also sort the shell material. When the camera has finished identifying the material, it will eliminate the material that is tracked and positioned through the gas spray valve, thus completing the sorting action.

Tips 2:Choose a sorting machine with front and rear cameras, especially because this area is very easy to accumulate dust, and choosing equipment with good sealing will greatly reduce maintenance costs and improve production efficiency. It is wiser to choose a sorting machine with an automatic dust extraction device, which will automatically remove the dust at start-up.

In addition to Sorting accuracy, rejection rate and other advertised parameters, as most brands have similar nominal values, you can't assess the merits of the sorter by these parameters. But mechanical workmanship and the choice of accessories have a great influence on the stable operation of the sorter

Tips 3:You need to pay attention to the workmanship of the color sorter and the materials used in the accessories. . You can consult the equipment sales staff, ask them to provide this information, such as what brand of fragile LED beads (OSRAM), the core processor is the latest fifth-generation chips and so on.
Now that we've covered what you can see, let's actually go and try out the color sorter in action. Okay, we're back in the display area and I want to show you a few more things, but I want to say that you're going to want to see a few more things before the video ends because I have something to show you.
Before the sorter is delivered to your factory, it's already set up and ready to start working straight away, just connect it to some optional accessories and click start color sorting and it's ready to go. Let me start by saying that before you decide to buy a sorter, you need to understand that if your sorting needs change three months after purchase, you need to contact your sales manager to assist you in commissioning the equipment. However, there are sometimes unforeseen difficulties with being on site, such as with the COVID-19.

Tips 4:Choose a sales brand close to you, or purchase a unit with remote control, and with the remote assistance feature, you don't need a sales agent, an experienced engineer can serve you around the world.
If you've read this far, we're happy to share the good news that we're offering a free air compressor or $500 cash discount if you choose a GroTech product, be sure to tell your sales manager about the $500 discount after you've talked to them about the price, which will ensure you get the lowest price.
